Herbal Salve

Herbal Salve

After ordering a Herbal Medicine Kit some time ago from Learning Herbs I (with some nagging and help from my daughter) finally got round to making one of the items in it; the herbal salve. This involved infusing four different herbs; comfrey, calendula, plantain and st john’s wort in olive oil over heat for about an hour, straining it, melting beeswax, mixing the two and then pouring it into containers, adding a few drops of lavender essential oil (to preserve it) and there you have it, six pots of herbal salve ready for using on any cuts, scratches, itches, chapped skin or lips! Easy!

Next time we’ll be making Echinacea tincture, just got to go out and get some vodka to make that…….I suppose I could drink it instead then I might fall over and I could then try out the herbal salve…Hmm (for those of you who don’t know me, I’m not a big drinker – on the rare occasions that I drink, just a couple of mouthfuls of wine are enough to get me tipsy!)

That’s great. I’ve got loads of comfrey on my allotment, which I use for making plant food, compost and other gardening uses. But I’ve been wondering whether it can be used on humans as well!
